Our Programs

Adelaide Senior Driver and Health Association (ASDHA) is currently developing a suite of programs tailored to support the safety, confidence, and wellbeing of older drivers across South Australia. Our goal is to launch pilot programs from late 2025, with the support of local councils, health professionals, and community organisations.

1. Senior Driver Refresher Workshops

These in-person workshops will help older drivers:

  • Understand recent changes to South Australian road rules
  • Improve awareness of common driving hazards
  • Practice low-speed manoeuvres in a safe, supportive setting
  • Refresh their knowledge of signs, markings, and give-way rules

Target audience: drivers aged 60+, especially those who haven’t taken formal training in decades.

2. Overseas Licence Transition Support

Many senior migrants have driving experience but are unfamiliar with local rules and testing. We’re developing:

  • Bilingual (English/Chinese) learning materials
  • Online tutorials explaining the licence conversion process
  • Pre-test support and guidance for aged drivers preparing for the VORT or CBT&A assessments

3. Health and Mobility Awareness Sessions

In collaboration with registered nurses and allied health workers, these sessions will explore:

  • How ageing affects reaction time, vision, and mobility
  • Strategies to drive safely with health conditions
  • When to seek medical review or self-assess driving ability
  • Resources for families concerned about an older loved one’s safety on the road

4. Instructor & Community Worker Training

We’re building a “Certificate of Completion: Senior Driver Awareness Instructor Course” for:

  • Driving instructors working with older clients
  • Health professionals supporting patients with mobility concerns
  • Community volunteers involved in road safety advocacy

The course may be delivered online and will include both theoretical and practical components.

5. Multilingual Resources

To improve access and inclusion, our educational materials will be provided in:

  • English
  • Simplified Chinese
  • Traditional Chinese
  • With plans to expand to Vietnamese and Arabic, depending on community needs

Coming Soon

Pilot programs are scheduled to begin in late 2025 in the Adelaide metropolitan area. If you’re a local council, aged care facility, health worker, or community member interested in participating or supporting our work — please contact us.
